Inside the Old Cathedral of Salamanca

The first cathedral we visited in Salamanca was the New and Old Cathedral (they are attached), but we only saw the Old Cathedral through a window on a staircase. We didn't actually enter the sanctuary that day. Last week, our program director took us to the Old Cathedral, and we were permitted to enter. It is, of course, filled with a lot of interesting art pieces. It was simpler than the New Cathedral, but interesting still. Most disturbing thing? THe entire floor is covered in "grave markers"- these slats of rock that denote where people are buried in the floor of the cathedral. I'm not superstitious really, but I tried not to step on them. It was also weird because most of the slats had numbers- not names. I.e.- Number 38 was buried here. Weird.
